Sports Days

The pupils took part in their respective sports days this term.  In their class house groups the students took part in a round robin of activities that tested their skills, speed, strength and stamina.  Each activity mirrored a skill they learnt within PE throughout the year such as dribbling with a football, shooting a basketball or throwing a ball with accuracy at a cricket stump.

2016 Sports Day Results

Lower KS2
1st Victoria Tigers
2nd Waterloo Jaguars
3rd Euston Tigers

Upper KS2
1st  Victoria Polar Bears
2nd Waterloo Orangutans
3rd Euston Polar Bears

All results will added to the final Sainsbury's Sports Games standings.
Unfortunately, the KS1 sports day was cancelled due to bad weather but we hope to reschedule the event early next academic year.

Sports Fusion Football Tournament

The Y3/4 football team recently participated in their second football tournament this year at Brixton Community Sports Centre.  The pupils played a league format and then qualified for the 'Challenge' cup.

The team were facing Hillmead B team in the quarter-finals, resulting in a 1-1 draw during regular time.  Penalties had to decide the match and Griffin were triumphant, eventually winning the game 2-1 on penalties.
Unfortunately, Hillmead were to get their revenge through their A team in the semi finals, beating Griffin 3-0.

The pupils worked hard, gained a lot of experience and were well behaved throughout the day.

Gymnastics competitions

The school entered a Y3/4 and Y5/6 gymnastics team in the borough primary schools gymnastic competition at Southfields Academy.  The pupils in Y3/4 (Zakir, Shemia, Zachary, Jahnade, Zhane) had to perform a set routine and vault on to a box.  For most members of the Y3/4 team this was their first experience of inter school competition and performed very well, resulting in finishing 7th place from 16 teams.

The Y5/6 team (Kayla, Shanay, Shakira, Marcel, Demoy) had to design and perform their own routine, including some set movements.    The pupils were judged on their technique of each movement, use of varying pace, use of space, posture, stretch and artistry.  The team competed against some seasoned gymnasts but performed to their best ability and finished in 8th place out of 12 teams.

Y3 & 4 Football Competition

Some boys from Leopards and Tigers class took part in a Sports Fusion football tournament at Ferndale Community Sports Centre before half term.  For the majority of the team, it was their first inter school sports competition but they showed great composure, hard work and resilience against schools from Lambeth and Wandsworth.  The team finished fourth in their league and will look to improve on that position during the next competition in the summer term.

Howzat!
8 pupils took part in the Maurice Fulcher indoor cricket completion at the famous KIA Oval at the start of this week.  Our pupils all had to outwit their opponents with their batting, bowling and fielding skills against primary schools in Wandsworth, Lambeth and Southwark.  The pupils did really well and am I am sure they can be even more competitive and improve in time for the outdoor competitions during the summer term.

Y5/6 Girls 5-a-side football competition

The girls had a very successful sunny day competing against 30 other teams on in the Wandsworth Primary Schools Girls Football Competition.  The girls drew their first match and then went on to win 5 consecutive games before losing to Honeywell, the eventual winners of the competition.

The girls finished 2nd in their league and were drawn against Holy Ghost in the quarter finals of the tournament.  After an intense battle during full time and extra time there was still no winning team and the result had to be decided by penalty shootouts.  After some epic saves from both goal keepers the game still couldn't be decided and went to nail biting 'sudden death' penalties.  Luck wasn't on our side and unfortunately we lost the match at the last hurdle.  Holy Ghost progressed to the final where they were beat 1-2 by Honeywell, the only schools we lost against on the day.

Despite the heart breaking exit out of the tournament the girls should be really proud of their hard work, effort, organisation and team work  they exemplified throughout the competition.

Cross Country racers

Early on a cold, rainy Wednesday morning, 17 of our Year 5&6 pupils represented the school in the Wandsworth Borough Primary Schools Cross Country Competition.  The pupils had to run a muddy 1,500m course in Tooting Common with up to 120 other pupils in their year group from dozens of primary schools in the borough.

They all did very well in what was the first race of this kind for most or all of them.
