US Embassy volunteers visit

Last Friday, Griffin invited 8 workers from London’s US Embassy to spend time at our school during their ‘Day of Service’ which is an initiative inspired by President Obama calling for American volunteers to perform acts of good will on September 11th. The volunteers spent the morning in EYFS reading stories to our youngest children and painting images of their favourite things. Mr Kader then put them to work weeding our allotments.

In the afternoon, the volunteers helped a group of Year 5 pupils to create a sign for a new garden being developed at the ROSE Community Centre (Ascalon Street). It was designed by Teaching Assistant, Mandy, and will be displayed at the centre with the art completed by the children in EYFS. The children involved in the day were excellent ambassadors for Griffin and I was very proud of them. The volunteers were very impressed by our school and are keen to support Griffin in whatever way they can.
The ‘Day of Service’ is the latest event in the US Embassy’s ongoing volunteering programme which aims to develop links with Battersea’s local community before they move to their new site in Nine Elms (in early 2017).
