Leopards test our Euro knowledge

Thankyou to the Year 3/4 Leopard class who presented some of their new learning about the features of, and differences between, England and France in their class assembly on Thursday. They delivered lots of knowledge with great confidence and there was plenty that would have been new to much of the audience. Test (and teach) your children with the map below.
Well done, Leopards!

Do your children know what this map shows, including where they live?
England, United Kingdom (UK), Great Britain (GB), British Isles: what's the difference?

Getting better by listening to advice

Our 'Golden Leaf Awards' for this week were based on the theme of the title. We all need to work with and listen to others in order to make progress and, maybe even, achieve great things.
All of the children below have been commended by their teachers for doing just that so 'congratulations' to them all.

Next week's awards will be focussed on backing up our work in school by making an effort with homework.

Street Dance assembly

Eleven talented pupils performed a warm-up, a routine and 'freestyled' in front of the whole school during Friday's assembly.  The students have been practising for several weeks during their after school street dance club and their hard work was rewarded with a display of rhythmic, coordinated, imaginative and entertaining moves.  A big thank you and congratulations also goes out to Jerry, our street dance instructor.

Gymnastics competitions

The school entered a Y3/4 and Y5/6 gymnastics team in the borough primary schools gymnastic competition at Southfields Academy.  The pupils in Y3/4 (Zakir, Shemia, Zachary, Jahnade, Zhane) had to perform a set routine and vault on to a box.  For most members of the Y3/4 team this was their first experience of inter school competition and performed very well, resulting in finishing 7th place from 16 teams.

The Y5/6 team (Kayla, Shanay, Shakira, Marcel, Demoy) had to design and perform their own routine, including some set movements.    The pupils were judged on their technique of each movement, use of varying pace, use of space, posture, stretch and artistry.  The team competed against some seasoned gymnasts but performed to their best ability and finished in 8th place out of 12 teams.

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!

On the Queen's 90th birthday, we can go back in time to 1998 when HRH visited this school, then called Sir James Barrie. There may be some parents who were here as pupils then, as well as staff who were working here at the time...?

See the quiz below the picture.

Y3 & 4 Football Competition

Some boys from Leopards and Tigers class took part in a Sports Fusion football tournament at Ferndale Community Sports Centre before half term.  For the majority of the team, it was their first inter school sports competition but they showed great composure, hard work and resilience against schools from Lambeth and Wandsworth.  The team finished fourth in their league and will look to improve on that position during the next competition in the summer term.

Persevering pupils rewarded with great progress

Very well done to our first 'Golden Leaf' winners this term, rewarded for keeping on going and trying hard, even when things are difficult. Perseverance is key to making progress, getting better.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint and we need to put effort in to get our rewards.

Next week's award will be for those who listen to advice and try to make improvements, as a result.

House gymnastics, dance and uni-hockey

Sainsburys School Games/ House sports competition

Last half term, students competed in a gymnastics competition where houses of each class had to create and perform their own partner sequences. As always, these house points will contribute to the final Sainsbury's School Games event of the academic year in summer.  This half term pupils will take part in basketball and cricket competition.
