Progress is the key to golden success

I've often said to children and staff that school is all about getting better: in education-speak, that is often referred to as 'progress'.
We should, of course, be working hard to learn more and become academically equipped for the world beyond school but we can also get better at many other things: working with others, dealing with frustration, being part of a large (assembly-like) group, communicating our thoughts and feelings - and much, much more!

Congratulations to the following, select group of children, identified by their teachers for working hard to make progress in one particular area or in many.

Ministers visit Griffin to support school 'mini-forests'

A number of our youngest pupils, support by Mrs Wheatley, helped to plant trees with the Secretary of State for the Environment, Liz Truss, and junior minister, Rory Stewart, this morning. This is part of an initiative, supported by the Woodland Trust, to develop and use green spaces in and around urban schools.
See here for the BBC article outlining the plans.

Mrs Wheatley, our Leader in Early Years, is passionate about children making use of our lovely outdoor learning environment and will be at the forefront of our work in this area in the coming months.

Kindness in pupils recognised

Thankyou and congratulations to the children rewarded this week for showing kindness to others. We can all be kind at times - and we have lots of really thoughtful children - so these children must be really special to be noticed by their teachers in this respect.

Lions entertain with a roaring good assembly

Well done to Mr Kader's Year 2 Lion class who entertained their audience with wonderful singing and storytelling. They really turned a grey world into a happy one - thank you all!

After the assembly, Mr Kader - our Literacy Leader - presented Golden Tickets to the pupils wearing the best character costumes yesterday. See their picture below.
The ticket entitles the winners to a free book from the Book Fair.
